Despite winning two straight games, the New York Mets haven’t received much production from infielder Bo Bichette. A two-time All-Star (2021 and 2023), Bichette has not lived up to the three-year ($126 million) contract he signed in the offseason.
In his first 25 games as a Met, Bichette is hitting .238 with a .584 OPS and one home run. Not known for his strikeouts, Bichette is striking out at a high rate, 22.6%, which is above his career average of 19.5%.
Out of the norm for Bichette, who is a career .292 hitter, the 28-year-old said after Thursday’s win that he needs to “make adjustments and get to the player I need to be at."

"The desire to help a new team, the desire to perform at the level you know you can perform at,” Bichette said to SNY. “I don't know if any of that was weighing on me. Still need to get better, make adjustments and get to the player I need to be at"
This is Bichette’s second season in three years where he’s struggled out of the gate. In 2024, Bichette hit .219 with a .589 OPS and one home run in 25 games in April.
That season proved to be an injury-riddled season for Bichette, limiting him to 81 games. 2024 was also the first season Bichette really struggled, batting .225 with a .598 OPS.
With shortstop Francisco Lindor expected to miss a chunk of time with a calf injury, the Mets need Bichette to step up his production.
