Boise State has immortalized its two biggest stars in program history in quite a unique way.
The Broncos released a video on social media Wednesday that revealed the new on-field tributes to former quarterback Kellen Moore, currently the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and former running back Ashton Jeanty, who is entering his second season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Rather than retire their respective No. 11 and No. 2 jerseys, the school is instead painting the sideline hashes at the 11 and two-yard lines orange, a creative homage to Moore and Jeanty. According to the program's post, the colored hashes will be permanent.
There has been some controversy in recent years when it comes to retiring former players' jerseys, perhaps most notably when Colorado opted to retire Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter's numbers last offseason. Instead, the Broncos found a way to honor their legends without wading into jersey retirement discourse.
Moore, who threw for 14,667 yards and 142 touchdowns as a four-year starter at Boise, is the all-time winningest FBS quarterback with a 49-3 record. He was also a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010.
Jeanty, meanwhile, ran for 2,601 yards in his final season with the Broncos in 2024, finishing as the Heisman runner-up and becoming the highest-drafted Boise State player in history when he became the sixth pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
