The Thunderbolts advance to round two of the SPHL Playoffs after defeating Pensacola. They will face the Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs, who finished third in the regular season and won their first playoff series decisively.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Thunderbolts are skating into round two of the SPHL Playoffs after taking down Pensacola in game three at the Ford Center on Sunday.
A huge elimination game victory for the hockey club and one they will need to carry momentum from into the weekend road trip. The Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs are next on the docket for the bolts.
Roanoke finished the regular season third in the standings just ahead of Evansville. Their offense was clicking in round one against the Birmingham Bulls as they wrapped that series up in just two games, winning contest by a six-goal margin.
But the Thunderbolts have been playing some quality hockey themselves as of late and are excited for the challenge ahead.
Evansville hasn’t faced Roanoke this year, so Friday’s puck drop at 6:05 p.m. will be a first for both squads.
