Bowen admits setback ‘hurts’ as West Ham beaten at Brentford

Jarrod Bowen has said West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford hurts after the Hammers’ hopes of Premier League survival suffered a setback.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were well beaten at the Gtech Community Stadium, by a Brentford side who climb up to sixth in the Premier League table.

West Ham had lost just one of their previous six games to climb out of the bottom three, but the club’s recent defensive solidity was not on show in a fixture that was full of misfortune.

Konstantinos Mavropanos’ own goal saw West Ham fall behind, while the East Londoners hit the woodwork three times on a frustrating afternoon. A penalty from Igor Thiago and Mikkel Damsgaard’s late third put the gloss on the scoreline for Brentford.

The result leaves West Ham just two points above Spurs, who know a victory at Aston Villa tomorrow will move them out of the bottom three – and put the relegation battle in their own hands.

“Really disappointing. All the goals were poor on our behalf and could’ve been stopped,” Bowen reflected to Sky Sports.

“We had chances, hit the post twice, bar and post again. We had a goal disallowed too. There were a couple of decisions that didn’t go our way.
