Brad Holmes Frank Ragnow Retirement Brad Holmes Lions draft strategy Detroit Lions safety draft decision
General manager Brad Holmes didnât dodge the question.
He addressed it head-on after the draftâand his answer was pretty straightforward.

In other words, this wasnât a calculated decision to ignore the position.
It was about value.
Holmes made it clear the Lions were paying attention to safeties.

Thatâs classic Holmes.
Stick to the board. Donât reach. Trust the process.
The Lions are optimistic about both playersâbut there are still real questions.
Branch is working his way back from a torn Achilles, while Joseph dealt with a knee issue that cost him significant time last season.
When healthy, though?
Itâs one of the best safety duos in the league.
Thatâs not a group you panic over.
Detroit also didnât ignore the position entirely this offseason.
They brought in depth and experience:
Itâs not flashy, but itâs functional.
And it gives the Lions options if either starter needs more time.
This wasnât neglect.
It was discipline.
