The New York Jets wanted to ensure they retained running back Breece Hall this offseason. That's precisely why general manager Darren Mougey didn't take any chances, placing the more expensive non-exclusive franchise tag on Hall before he could test free agency. Last week, they agreed on a three-year, $45.75 million extension.
Hall is now the third-highest paid back in the league. With their bellcow under contract for the foreseeable future, Mougey and Aaron Glenn shift attention to rebuilding other areas of the roster. With Geno Smith as a temporary starter at quarterback, nothing is more important than eventually finding a franchise QB.
Hall believes in what Mougey and Glenn are doing.
"I'm the only running back that's consistently a top 10 back in the league that hasn't been in the most ideal situation," Hall bluntly responded to a question. "Now, AG [Aaron Glenn] and Moug [Darren Mougey], they've really put me in position with all the guys we brought in and the team we're building around us to really flourish. This could be my best season, for sure."
Hall sounds excited about the additions of Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. via the 2026 NFL draft. Adding them to a supporting cast that already had Garrett Wilson and Mason Taylor gives the Jets' offense plenty of playmaking options. That should take some pressure off Hall, which could lead to him producing career-best numbers in 2026.
