Bromley captain Webster to play final game for club

Bromley skipper Byron Webster has announced Saturday's final game of the season against Walsall will be his last for the club.

The 39-year-old joined the Ravens in 2020 and has captained them through their rise from non-league to League One.

Centre-back Webster has made 172 appearances across the National League and League Two and was part of the team who won the FA Trophy in 2021-22.

This season, he has played 14 times in all competitions as Bromley have won promotion to League One for the first time in their history.

"When I joined in 2020 and listened to the chairman about his plans and visions, I believed and was fully committed to achieve this," he said in a statement on the club's X account.

"To see that come to fruition is unbelievable.

"There are so many people to thank but I'll keep it short. Thank you to Bromley Football Club, the big bosses - Mr Chairman and Mr CEO. Also, the managers, coaches, backroom staff, office staff, teammates and supporters."

Former Yeovil Town and Millwall defender Webster scored the winning penalty as Bromley beat Solihull Moors at Wembley to secure promotion to the English Football League for the first time in 2023-24.

He then played a key role in establishing the club as a League Two team as they finished 11th in the table last season.
