The Boston Bruins' season is officially over.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, it ended on their home ice Friday night with a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series.
Coming off a thrilling 2-1 overtime road win in Game 5 on Tuesday, Boston was unable to force Game 7.
The Bruins never led in Game 6, going down two goals in the first period. After netting the game-winner on Tuesday, David Pastrnak scored their lone goal of the game in the second period, cutting the deficit to one with his third goal of the series.
That was all Boston could muster, however. The Sabres tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the third period, putting the game away and ending the Bruins' hopes of a comeback.
The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Buffalo Sabres.
The Bruins' season ended due to their loss in Game 6 of the first-round playoff series against the Sabres.
The Bruins lost to the Sabres on Friday night, marking the end of their season.

Surprisingly, Boston lost all three of its home games during the series despite being one of the NHL's best home teams in the regular season with a 29-11-1 record at TD Garden.
The Bruins simply weren't able to generate much offense after starting the series strong in Buffalo, scoring just five goals over their last four games combined and getting outscored 20-12 in the series.
This marks the third first-round exit in the last five years for Boston, which has lost five of its last six postseason series. The Sabres will face the winner of Game 7 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Montreal Canadiens in the next round.
