The Boston Bruins could be a team to watch this offseason after reaching the playoffs last year.
Boston made the playoffs this season, but lost in six games to the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. However, it was a positive year for the Bruins, who weren’t predicted to make the playoffs according to many experts.
A big reason why Boston had success was the second line and Pavel Zacha having a stellar year. The counterman recorded 30 goals for the first time in his career, and added 35 assists for 65 points, and with him having one year left on his deal, Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic urges the team to try and extend him this summer.
“The do-it-all center has one year remaining on his deal,” Shinzawa wrote in an article published on Tuesday. “He will be eligible to sign an extension on July 1. He is one of Sturm’s favorites because of his versatility, hockey sense and defensive responsibility.”
Zacha is entering the final year of his four-year, $19 million deal and can sign an extension as of July 1. Whether or not the Bruins and Zacha will be able to agree to an extension is uncertain, but the centerman did make it clear he wanted to remain in Boston.
The Bruins are urged to extend Pavel Zacha's contract due to his impressive performance, scoring 30 goals this season.
The Boston Bruins reached the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by the Buffalo Sabres in six games.
Many experts did not predict the Bruins would make the playoffs, making their postseason appearance a positive surprise.

“I feel I turned my career here a little bit,” said Zacha. “Of course you’d want to stay here. It’s also not up to me fully. So we’ll see how that goes. But I like Boston. It would be fun to be here for a long time.”
The Bruins acquired Zacha in July of 2022 from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Erik Haula.
