CHICAGO — More changes are coming in the Chicago Bulls front office under new executive vice president of basketball operations Bryson Graham, who is finalizing two vice president hirings this week.
A source confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that the Bulls will hire Stephen Mervis as senior vice president of basketball operations — a position that will operate underneath Graham similarly to the general manager job in previous iterations of the front office — and Acie Law IV to a new role as vice president of player personnel.
ESPN first reported Mervis’ hiring, while Law’s hiring was first reported by Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
Mervis most recently served as an assistant general manager for the Orlando Magic, with whom he built a reputation over the last 12 years as a savvy salary-cap strategist with a strong understanding of trade valuation and roster building.
In many ways, Mervis is similar to Graham — an experienced executive who is just under 40 and was waiting for his breakout role. He will serve as second-in-command as the Bulls aim to transform their front office into a more nimble and adaptive presence in the Eastern Conference.
Law, 41, was director of player personnel for the Brooklyn Nets this past season after winning a championship ring in 2024-25 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, for whom he served as scouting director for five years.
He made the transition to scouting after a four-year NBA playing career with five teams, included 12 games for the Bulls in 2009-10. Law was a college teammate of Graham’s at Texas A&M, overlapping for two years.
Both hires reflect Graham’s desire to improve the Bulls’ ability to identify, acquire and develop talent — critical for a team with two first-round and two second-round picks in this year’s draft. The front-office rebuild will continue in the upcoming weeks along with hiring a new head coach and restructuring the coaching staff.
