After an injury-plagued season last year, Caitlin Clark gave her fans a scare on Thursday night.
The Indiana Fever star, 24, sprawled on the ground after banging her knee “really hard” on the court in the third quarter in a preseason game against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Wings forward Alanna Smith fouled Clark while she was attempting a 3-pointer, causing the guard to land on Smith’s foot and come down awkwardly on her kneecap.
Her Fever teammates and coaches looked on in concern as fans inside the building held their collective breath.

Clark only played 13 games last season after suffering a groin injury in July.
For her coach Stephanie White, the scary moment put things in perspective.
“Certainly, a sigh of relief, but you can kind of see in her face sometimes,” White said. “It was like, ‘All right, she took [a hard foul],’ ” White said. “But sometimes when you come back from injury, depending on what the injury is, you gotta feel that a little bit first, right? You gotta be like, ‘Okay, yeah, I can shake that one off. Let’s go out there and knock down the free throws.’ ”
