The Boston Red Sox saw Cam Schlittler dominate their lineup in the American League Wild Card series last season, and he is about to take the mound against them again.
The Red Sox's rivalry with the New York Yankees is one of the most noteworthy in sports. The two sides do not like each other and have had many intense matchups over the years. After last season's postseason win against the Red Sox, Schlittler even got into it with some fans online after the Red Sox were eliminated.
Schlittler has Boston ties and grew up a Red Sox fan. However, now that he is on the other side, he seems to have developed a beef with Red Sox fans. He has noted that he has gotten threats online, but is not worried about it. He understands that fans are passionate and that he has been dealing with it ever since his postseason start against his childhood team.
Schlittler is slated to take the mound Thursday, in what the Red Sox hope is a rubber match between the two American League East rivals. Schlittler commented on his part in the rivalry recently.
“Obviously, growing up, you’re like ‘I wish I could pitch for them,’” Schlittler said, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo. “As I got through college with the relationship I built with the Yankees prior to the draft, the goal was to get here as a Yankee and throw against them.

“Being here last year, we got a good feel of how intense it is up here. I think it’s going to be loud and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Schlittler may just be in his second season, but he has turned into a key part of this rivalry. He is not letting fans going overboard distract him, however.
“I’m not really concerned about it, no,” Schlittler said of threats he's received. “Not too worried about that topic, either. I’ve been dealing with stuff for six months now so not overly concerned. Just looking forward to throwing Thursday.”
