Sure sounds like a match, doesn't it?
The Edmonton Oilers aren't yet shopping McDavid, but they're heading toward the window of time when they might at least consider it. He has two seasons left on his contract, so if the Oilers want to maximize value, a deal would happen this summer or before next season's trade deadline.

"For sheer entertainment value, here's your winner," Fitzsimmons writes. "The Canadiens are the New York Yankees of the NHL when it comes to tradition, and, though they haven't won a Cup since 1993, it's not hard to envision that drought ending in the near, rather than long-term, future."
And from a hockey perspective? It'd be a blast for Montreal fans.
"Just imagining McDavid slotting in alongside Cole Caufield on his right side or Juraj Slafkovský on his left might drive a fan of Les Habitants into a frothing mess, and there's presumably enough young talent in the cupboard to make it worth Bowman's while when considering a possible return," Fitzsimmons writes. "No real rooting interest here, but if we're picking based on the non-Edmonton possibility we'd most like to watch, it's that player in that building wearing that uniform and working with coach Martin St. Louis."
If McDavid goes on the block, pretty much every team in the NHL would pick up the phone and call.
Montreal, as far as potential destinations go, would be a pretty compelling one.
