Eugene Bareman has played down concerns over Carlos Ulbergās knee injury following his title win at UFC 327.
Ulberg was seen celebrating the victory in Miami, giving his coach more reason to believe the damage isnāt as bad as it first appeared.
āItās just a scratch, mate,ā Bareman told Ariel Helwani on Monday. āHeāll be back as soon as he can.ā
āThe way he was jumping around at the after-party in Miami, I reckon it was just a scratch.
āWeāll wait for a medical diagnosis because Iām the furthest person who can make that qualification.
āIām not sure. Itās probably not as bad as everybody thinks.ā
Doctor expects Carlos Ulberg out until 2027
Medical expert Brian Sutterer has given a bleak update on Carlos Ulbergās injury, which occurred before his win over Jiri Prochazka.
Sutterer is convinced the light heavyweight champion suffered an ACL tear and will need surgery.
The diagnosis came after reviewing the footage of Ulbergās injury in slow motion, though it remains unconfirmed as no official medical update has been released.
According to Sutterer, it could be between nine months and a year before Ulberg is able to fight again.
āThat injury that Ulberg suffered is almost certainly going to keep him out for a very long time. Itās not his Achilles, itās something more serious in his knee,ā he said on Sunday. āThis is pathognomonic of an ACL tear. I would be stunned [if itās not]. There is nothing else that is going to cause the tibia to shift forward internally like that and then pop backwards other than an ACL tear.ā
āThis is almost certainly going to be a surgical injury. Iād be surprised if we see him fighting in nine to 12 months, which is really a shame when youāve just acquired a new title.ā
