Celtic have been handed a blow in the clubâs pursuit of Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.
Robertson is set to become a free agent when his contract at Anfield expires this summer, with the Scotland captain due to depart Liverpool after nine decorated seasons.
Celtic have been named as suitors for the 32-year-old, who is a lifelong supporter of the club and has previously discussed his desire to represent the Scottish side.
Tottenham Hotspur are frontrunners to sign Robertson, having seen a January deal fall through.
However, the North London side are battling against Premier League relegation and their pursuit of the player hinges on that outcome. Spurs sit 18th in the Premier League, two points from safety, with four games to go.
Relegation for Spurs would have put Celtic in a stronger position. However, the Daily Record are reporting that rival interest has emerged from Atletico Madrid.
The Daily Record report that the Spanish side are keen on a deal to sign Robertson, which could scupper Celticâs chances. Robertsonâs preference is for his future to be determined before he leads Scotland at this summerâs World Cup.
Speaking in 2022, Robertson told BT Sportâs Currie Club Podcast that he frequently considers playing for Celtic.
