According to Tracy, Bello will start after an opener again during Tuesday's series opener. Boston's opener is still TBD, but the strategy worked wonders for Bello in his last outing on May 5, as he threw seven innings of one-run ball against the Detroit Tigers after entering the game in the second inning.
The Red Sox are hoping for similar results from Bello, who has a 9.12 ERA as a starter this year.
Tracy confirmed that Gray will start on Wednesday, a full week after returning from the IL with five scoreless innings against the Tigers. Gray will look to build on that outing against the Phillies.
Tracy also said Suarez will start Thursday's series finale. He hasn't pitched since May 3 due to hamstring tightness and had his start skipped over the weekend, but it sounds like he'll be good to go on Thursday against his former team.
"Everything is good there (with Suarez) so he’s slated to throw on Thursday," Tracy said via MassLive's Chris Cotillo on Sunday.
That's great news for Boston, as Suarez has been one of the team's best starting pitchers this year with a 2.77 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in seven starts.
Meanwhile, Zack Wheeler will start on Tuesday for Philadelphia, followed by Andrew Painter on Wednesday and Jesus Luzardo on Thursday.
