New Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel must have been wondering how long it would take Justin Herbert to pick up his new scheme when the offseason began.
The learning process for each quarterback is different, and there will be ups and downs as the offseason rolls along.
But for McDaniel, he's got one of the better quarterbacks in football to work with, and as far as Herbert learning Mike's scheme, he's nailed it so far.
In fact, even McDaniel has been surprised at how quickly Herbert has picked up what he's putting down.
"I had very, very lofty expectations. Justin's up there as one of the main motivating factors of moving my family here," McDaniel said via the team's website. "Lofty expectations and I can say with absolute certainty he's exceeded those. Just very motivated and focused."

Well, you can make the case that this presents the best chance of Herbert's career to finally do something of note.
Prior to this upcoming season, Herbert has flashed in the regular season but has failed in the playoffs, going 0-3. Largely a run-first offense under Greg Roman, that will change under McDaniel.
We saw what he did with Tua Tagovailoa, so what Mike could do with Herbert is a tantalizing thought for fans.
Herbert has all the tools to be one of the best quarterbacks in football, and finally, he has a coordinator who we know can get the best out of him. Although it does come with pressure.
Because if McDaniel can't get the best out of Herbert, then we wonder if there's anyone in football who can.
