Reacting to the menu in comments shared via TNT Sports, Barkley did not hold back on his assessment.
“It’s a little too foo foo for me. The flatbread, that’s not a thing. Okay, I can go with that [rocky shrimp tempura], there are a couple of places I get that, but you gotta have meat on your flatbread.
“Oh, come on, stop that [bacon wrapped dates]. That’s the only way you can f___ up bacon,” Barkley said.
The criticism focused on what he saw as overly refined options, questioning whether the menu matched expectations for the traditional dinner.
Barkley’s reaction quickly became part of the wider conversation around McIlroy’s selections.
Rather than just criticizing, Barkley outlined exactly what he would prefer to see served at Augusta.
“I’d take the fried chicken they got at The Masters. For appetizers, I’ll start with shrimp cocktail and crab cocktail. A Caesar salad. No anchovies.
“Some type of vegetarian b_______. A doversole. Key lime pie, apple pie, and vanilla ice cream,” Barkley added.
His version leans toward more familiar and traditional options, contrasting with the original menu’s lighter and more varied approach.
The comparison highlights how personal the Champions Dinner has become, with each winner bringing a different style to the table.
In the end, Barkley’s comments underline how even off-course traditions at Augusta can spark strong opinions when they deviate from expectations.
