It’s easy to forget that Kendry Paez was for a while the young player Chelsea fans were most excited about signing. It’s not gone to plan since, and after a failed sojourn in Europe he’s returned to South America, where he’s playing with River Plate.
Even there, things aren’t going well. He’s started just three games since January. He’s been involved in 10 games out of a potential 18. That’s just not enough game time to help him develop, so what do the Blues too?
They could recall him and send him elsewhere – they have a clause which would allow them to do that. But dropping him to a level below River Plate arguably doesn’t do much to develop him either. It might be better to leave him there, at a club famed for getting the best out of youngsters, and hope that he gradually earns first team minutes.
Given how poor the sporting structure’s loan decisions have been in the last few years, we trust them to make the wrong decision.
