Chelsea’s stance on hiring Xabi Alonso as next manager revealed

Xabi Alonso talks put Chelsea manager hunt in motion

As Fabrizio Romano reported, Chelsea have held a direct meeting with Alonso as they push toward a final decision.

“Chelsea have had a direct meeting with Xabi Alonso and final decision is expected very. CFC plan to announce their next manager before the World Cup, talks are accelerating,” Romano tweeted.

He added, “Chelsea also spoke to Iraola, Glasner and Marco Silva as part of their list.”

That makes Alonso more than just a name on a shortlist. Chelsea have already moved into direct talks, which shows clear interest from the club’s side.

Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva have also been part of the process, but Alonso’s profile gives him a different pull. He brings elite playing credibility, a modern tactical identity, and the kind of authority Chelsea’s young squad could respond to quickly.

Chelsea need control after another reset

Chelsea’s search is tied to the club’s need for stability after another turbulent spell under the current ownership. The club moved on from Liam Rosenior after a damaging run of results, with the team struggling badly for goals and consistency.

That has made the next appointment critical. Chelsea need more than a coach with ideas; they need someone who can give the squad structure, command respect, and shape a clear long-term plan.

Alonso is attractive because of what he achieved at Bayer Leverkusen, where he transformed the team into a disciplined, aggressive, title-winning side.

His football is built around control, smart positioning, strong midfield structure, and wing-back threat, which could fit several pieces already in Chelsea’s squad.

The World Cup deadline adds pressure. Chelsea want the new manager in place early enough to influence transfer planning and avoid losing more time during a crowded summer.
