A junior, McCoy ran a 400-meter personal-best of 59.76 seconds to take fourth place May 1 at the Spartan Challenge.
McCoy's time is the 10th-best in the state this season among Class 5A girls.
McCoy received 46.48% of the reader poll votes. Elmira softball player Audrey Varozza was second (34.42%).

Elmira junior Petra Archer ran a season-best 16.34 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles April 29 at a tri-meet with Roseburg and Willamette.
Archer's time is the eighth-best of the season among Class 3A athletes.
Springfield junior Sailor Hall uncorked a season-best javelin throw of 123 feet, 2 inches April 29 at a dual meet with Thurston.
Hall's throw is the fifth-best in the state this season, regardless of classification. She also produced a season-best shot put mark of 37-4 — good for second-best in the state this spring among Class 5A girls.
Springfield junior Violet Moran launched a personal-best javelin throw of 117-1 April 29 at a dual meet with Thurston.
Moran's throw is the fourth-best in the state this season among Class 5A girls.
South Eugene senior Sydney Mucker ran a personal-best marathon time of 4:05:50 April 26 at the Eugene Marathon.
Mucker ran in support of the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Malie McCoy, a junior track and field athlete from Churchill, is the Active Chiropractic girls Athlete of the Week.

Thurston junior Kelsie Raven delivered a season-best triple jump mark of 35-1 1/2 April 29 at a dual meet with Springfield. Her mark is the fourth-best in the state this season among Class 5A girls
Raven also ran a 100-meter hurdle season-best time of 15.58, which ranks sixth in the state among 5A athletes.
Elmira senior Audrey Varozza threw a five-inning shutout, struck out five and walked one April 28 to lead the Falcons to a 10-0 win over Creswell.
At the plate, Varozza went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three times.
Marist Catholic junior Lillian Wobbe threw a six-inning shutout, struck out 11 and allowed just three runners to reach base May 1 in a 13-0 win over Cottage Grove.
