Cincinnati Reds' Terry Francona Shares Emilio Pagan Injury Update
The Cincinnati Reds earned a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. Star closer Emilio Pagan pitched in the game, but he seemingly suffered an injury. Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters after the contest that Pagan is dealing with a hamstring concern.
"He is getting looked at right now," Francona said, via Chatterbox Sports.
The manager also said that Pagan needed to be "checked out" after the game, which added a sense of urgency to the situation.
Pagan, 34, has recorded a 4.82 ERA and five saves this season. In 2025, he pitched to a 2.88 ERA while earning 32 saves. He is one of the better closers in baseball, and the Reds are certainly hoping that he did not suffer a serious injury.
The team will closely monitor the situation. Another update should be provided soon, possibly even on Tuesday night or on Wednesday.
The Reds earned a win in a pitcher's duel over the Giants. Brady Singer got the start for Cincinnati. He allowed only one run across six innings of work. He did surrender six hits and he only had one strikeout. Singer did not walk a batter, though.
For the Giants, Robbie Ray started the contest. The southpaw went five innings and allowed two runs.
Both bullpens were impressive, but the Reds held on for the victory.
Sal Stewart and Spencer Steer led the offense, as they both recorded a hit and an RBI in the game. Elly De la Cruz had the team's only other hit in the ball game. Nevertheless, Cincinnati's lineup did just enough to help the Reds win.
Pagan's injury is far from ideal, but it was a big win for the Reds, who are now 10-7 overall. Injuries have impacted the ball club early in the '26 campaign up to this point, but they are still finding ways to earn victories.
The Reds will host the Giants once again on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in the second contest of a three-game series in Cincinnati.
For the Reds, right-handed pitcher Rhett Lowder will start the game. He has pitched to a 3.31 ERA so far in 2026. The Giants will send Tyler Mahle, who has a 4.30 ERA, to the mound.
It should be another competitive game between the Giants and Reds.
