Clemson athletics did not have the loudest year in competition. Football dropped games it was expected to win, men’s basketball exited the NCAA Tournament in the first round, and baseball entered May sitting near the bottom of the ACC standings. For a department used to national relevance, it has been a frustrating stretch in a few of the sports fans follow closest.
But college athletes carry a title that goes beyond the scoreboard. They are student-athletes, and the first half of that label matters. Wins, rankings, and postseason runs will always drive the conversation, but the long-term pitch of college athletics is still built around development, education, and leaving campus with a degree.
Clemson posted its highest single-year Academic Progress Rate score in school history, earning a 998 out of 1,000 in the NCAA’s latest data release. The report covers the 2021-22 through 2024-25 academic years and gives Clemson one of the strongest academic marks in department history.
The Tigers also had 10 programs finish with a perfect 1,000 APR score, while a school-record 12 programs earned Public Recognition Awards. Those awards are given annually to teams with multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent nationally within their sport, making the number more than just a nice graphic for social media. It is a sign that Clemson had academic success spread across the department, not just carried by one or two teams.
The APR is designed to track academic eligibility, retention, and progress toward graduation for student-athletes. In simpler terms, it is one of the NCAA’s biggest ways of measuring whether athletes are staying on track in the classroom while competing at the college level. Clemson finishing at 998 means the department was almost perfect in that area across the latest cycle.
For a school that sells itself on the full student-athlete experience, this is the kind of release Clemson will gladly push. Fans naturally focus on wins, rankings, transfers, and recruiting, but APR success matters because it reflects what is happening behind the scenes. It means players are staying eligible, continuing their education, and moving through the academic side of college athletics the right way.

It also gives Clemson another piece of ammunition in recruiting. Coaches can sell facilities, gameday environments, conference competition, and pro development, but being able to point to a school-record academic mark adds another layer to the pitch.
The 998 APR score now stands as the best single-year mark Clemson Athletics has ever posted. For a department that loves the phrase “Best is the Standard,” this is one of those moments where the slogan actually fits.
