Clemson baseball defeated No. 8 Coastal Carolina 8-4, evening the season series. The Tigers showcased strong pitching and a balanced offensive performance with 14 hits.
Clemson baseball leaned on steady pitching and a deep night at the plate to pick up a key road win Tuesday, knocking off a top-10 Coastal Carolina team 8-4 and evening the season series.
The Tigers racked up 14 hits and got contributions up and down the lineup, setting the tone early and never giving Coastal much room to build momentum. Jack Crighton led the charge with four hits, matching his career best, while Tyler Lichtenberger and Jarren Purify each added two. Tryston McCladdie drove in a pair, and Nate Savoie reached base three times, scored twice, and continued his hot stretch with another RBI.
Clemson grabbed control in the second inning when Bryce Clavonâs squeeze bunt brought home the first run. An inning later, McCladdie came through with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 3-0. Even when Coastal trimmed the deficit in the fifth, Clemsonâs pitching staff answered. Ariston Veasey worked out of a bases-loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts, keeping the Tigers in front.
The sixth inning turned into another swing moment. Savoie lined a two-out double off the wall to bring in a run, then later scored on a defensive miscue to extend the lead. Coastal answered with a two-run double of its own, but Clemson didnât let things spiral.
Late in the game, the Tigers created separation. Luke Gaffney added an RBI single in the eighth, Savoie came around on a wild pitch, and Jason Fultz Jr. capped the scoring with a squeeze bunt in the ninth.
On the mound, Clemson used a mix of arms to keep a dangerous lineup in check. Freshman Danny Nelson handled the start with two scoreless innings, while Drew Titsworth picked up the win after tossing two clean frames. The bullpen as a whole limited big innings and prevented Coastal from ever taking control.
With the win, Clemson moves to 29-20 and heads back home for a big ACC matchup. The Tigers will host a ranked Florida State team beginning Friday night, a series that could carry major weight down the stretch.
