*ā*The body is probably slightly better than that. Itās hard to trust the body right now.

*ā*Itās a very uncomfortable feeling. I had never experienced anything like it until about a month ago. Thereās just no trust, and thatās the hardest thing, to say go fire at the shot when youāre trying to play in a tournament because essentially for me Iām trying to last throughout the entire week.
āIām going to have to be in a little bit more of a comfortable at-home setting to test how far I can get to. But weāll do that after this week.ā
Morikawa was then asked what the prognosis is.
āWhat ended up happening, I think ā like Iām not in pain. I know it looked painful, but Iām just very scared, and Iāve never been this scared in my life to go out and play,ā the two-time major winner admitted.

*ā*But I think itās because it happened on the golf course. Iāve never had any back stuff happen on the golf course. Every time in the gym. Then Iād go out and swing, Iām just saying, do I feel good enough to swing.
Iāve just been so timid and so shy in a way because the buildup was going okay, kind of had a minor setback, and then at the end of the day it was like, I need to tee it up at the Masters.
āThere was a point where it was like, okay, letās stop pushing to see how far we can get and letās see what I can just work with. Iāve had back issues over the past three years. Weāve seen it. Iāve just got to find a way to kind of protect it a little bit more.ā
The two-time major champion was asked by reporters how long he foresees his current issue continuing for.
āI donāt know. I donāt know,ā Morikawa said.
*ā*I think itās going to take a little bit more time at home to push the limits. I feel like Iām swinging a little bit better in the motion, at least, but I wouldnāt say Iām putting more effort into it because, like I said, I need to be at home to say, okay, letās turn up the gears.
āIf I do feel a little uncomfortable, at least Iām home, Iām not trying to play a tournament where I essentially need to make it 72 holes.ā
Morikawaās current problem appears to be more mental than physical.
He needs to get over whatever the issue is as soon as possible, if he is to win again on the PGA Tour anytime soon.
