The Indianapolis Colts are giving Nasir Adderley another chance in the NFL.
The former Chargers starting safety spent the last three seasons retired from football. But he announced in February that he wanted to return to the league.
On Tuesday, the Colts announced Adderley's signing.
Adderley had shocked the NFL three-plus years ago when he retired at just 25 years old.
In February, AdderleyĀ wrote on social mediaĀ about his hope for returning to the NFL.
āItās now been three years since I left the NFL, and I am extremely happy with my development,ā Adderley wrote. āHealth, family, and entrepreneurship were my top priorities, and Iām proud of what Iāve been able to accomplish. The freedom to manage my own schedule was very important to me, but what I didnāt realize was how much Iād miss having football in my life. The competition, the brotherhood, and just being involved in the game that means so much to me and my family. Therefore, I am officially announcing my intention to return to the NFL.ā

Adderley was a Chargers' second-round pick in 2019 out of Delaware.
He played 50 games in four seasons for the Chargers, grabbing three interceptions and racking up 232 tackles.
His rookie contract had expired before he retired, which is why he was a free agent upon his return.
There'll be more to learn about what Adderley did while he was away from the NFL.
But the news on Tuesday is simply that he's back -- and it's the Colts welcoming him back into the league.
Indy has needed secondary help for a while now. Adderley may be a bit rusty, but if he can return to his prior level of play, he can help the Colts for sure.
