MADISON â After getting the first eight members of its 2027 class from inside the state, the Wisconsin football program is showing the reach of its recruiting efforts.
Last week the Badgers secured commitments from players from Indiana and Delaware.
On Thursday, April 30, they received a commitment from Will Zaccagnino, a three-star defensive lineman from Shelton, Connecticut.
Zaccagnino, who is 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, is the 11th member of the Badgersâ 2027 class. He is also the first interior defensive lineman and the fourth defensive player overall.
Zaccagnino announced his commitment on social media.
âI am very excited to announce my commitment to the University of Wisconsin!,â he wrote on X. âIâm home!!!â
The Badgers were one of 15 schools to offer a scholarship to Zaccagnino, but the second Power Four program after Syracuse. He announced UWâs offer on X on March 5.
Since then his recruitment has picked up. Illinois, Michigan State and Missouri were the last offers he announced.
Zaccagninoâs decision came after he made an unofficial visit to campus April 21. That trip was part of a flurry of visits he made to programs this spring, including Penn State, Missouri, Duke and Wake Forest in April.
He attends St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut, and as a junior posted 47 tackles that included eight tackles for a loss and four sacks. He also broke up nine passes and was a consensus first-team all-state selection.

The commitment comes six days after four-star quarterback Jack Sorgi joined the Badgersâ class and three days after safety DJ Davis declared his intention to play for UW.
The addition of Zaccagnino leaves the Badgers' class ranked No. 12 by 247sports as of noon Thursday and at No. 20 by Rivals/On3.
