Connor McDavid addressed growing speculation about his future with the Edmonton Oilers, delivering a clear message after the team’s early NHL playoff exit.

Rumors picked up following McDavid’s blunt assessment of the Oilers’ season, especially since last year he chose to sign a two-year contract extension. However, he dismissed those with his blunt response on Saturday morning.

“I want to win, and I want to win here in Edmonton. That’s my focus,” McDavid said about his future.

McDavid’s statement comes at a time when questions surround the Oilers’ direction and ability to compete for a championship.

The concern stems from Edmonton’s first-round elimination by the Anaheim Ducks. The series ended 4-2, capped by a 5-2 loss in Game 6 on April 30. Their regular season showed average performance, but the team made the playoffs. However, those issues once again haunted them, as they failed to find consistency when it mattered most.

“Yeah, I feel the same way,” McDavid said. “You know, it’s only a couple of days ago I made those comments, so obviously feel the same as I did a couple of days ago, and I agree with Leon that the organization as a whole has taken a step back, and that starts with me, starts with Leon.
