The Giants are unlikely to trade edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux after dealing Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals. Although there were trade inquiries for Thibodeaux, his value is not comparable to Lawrence's.
Now that the Giants have traded star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, could edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux be next?
Probably not.
The Giants got trade calls on Thibodeaux, but are unlikely to deal him, in the wake of sending Lawrence to the Bengals, according to NFL Network.
Left unsaid: Thibodeaux isnāt nearly as accomplished as Lawrence, and so he wouldnāt command a massive return.
At this point, Thibodeaux is still scheduled to play 2026 on the fifth-year option in his rookie contract, which is worth $14.7 million.
But with the Giants heavily invested in two other edge rusher who are better players than Thibodeaux ā Abdul Carter and Brian Burns ā thereās a chance Thibodeaux departs in free agency next offseason.
Bottom line: If the Giants had gotten a strong enough offer for Thibodeaux, they surely would have traded him.
Lawrence is quite obviously held in higher regard than Thibodeaux by other NFL teams. Thatās why the Bengals were willing to part with the 10th overall pick in this yearās draft for Lawrence, while giving him the significant pay bump he wanted.
With the 2026 NFL Draft set to begin Thursday night, the John Harbaugh-led Giants are set to pick fifth and 10th in Round 1.
Just because Harbaugh likely wonāt be trading Thibodeaux before or during this yearās draft doesnāt mean the Giantsā new boss will retain him through the end of this season.
Depending on how Thibodeaux performs, Harbaugh could opt to deal him in advance of the midseason trading deadline.
The Giants received trade calls for Thibodeaux following the trade of Dexter Lawrence, but they are unlikely to proceed with a deal.
Lawrence's trade may reduce the likelihood of Thibodeaux being traded, as the Giants are focusing on maintaining their defensive core.
Thibodeaux is not as accomplished as Lawrence, which means he would not command a significant return in a trade.
