Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated that there has been no interest from other teams in trading for wide receiver George Pickens. The Cowboys have placed a franchise tag worth $27.298 million on Pickens but are not rushing to finalize a long-term deal.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones says 'no one called with interest in George Pickens'
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones said Tuesday that the trade market for George Pickens has been quiet.
âWeâve had no one call with interest in George Pickens,â Jones said on 105.3 The FAN.
The Cowboys placed a one-year, $27.298 million franchise tag on Pickens earlier this offseason. While the team has expressed interest in keeping the 25-year-old wide receiver long term, Jones said earlier this offseason that he does not want to put a timetable on when a deal will get done.
âThe most important thing is to live in the present,â Jones said in February.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters he is unsure whether Pickens will report to minicamp and OTAs, both of which are voluntary. The Cowboysâ voluntary minicamp begins April 20, and OTAs start June 1.
The Cowboys acquired Pickens in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason to pair him with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Pickens thrived in Schottenheimerâs offense, posting career-best numbers across the board and leading the team in most receiving categories. He finished the season with 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns. Before joining Dallas, Pickens spent three seasons with the Steelers.
Jones also addressed potential NFL Draft trades, noting that discussions typically begin early next week. However, he said he is a âbig believer that most of these trades happen when you are on the board.â The Cowboys currently hold the 13th and 20th picks, with the latter acquired in the Micah Parsons trade. The first round of the NFL Draft begins April 23.
