The injury bug has been making its way around the league since the start of the season, but there is a team that has been plagued by it more than some others: the Chicago Cubs. Looking at the Cubsâ pitching staff, their lack of luck in the injury department is on full display, as the likes of Matthew Boyd, Jordan Wicks, Phil Maton, and Cade Horton, among others, are all slated to miss some time due to their respective ailments.
These injuries are among the reasons the Cubs haven't gotten off to the hottest start this season, posting an 8-9 record through Tuesday night's action, which has them sitting dead last in the National League Central.
Just when things couldnât get worse for the north side of Chicago, the team was dealt yet another injury, as Ethan Roberts is headed to the 15-day IL.
Cubsâ manager Craig Counsell elaborated on Roberts recent injury, explaining that it happened after a vent fell and made contact with his hand.
âUnfortunately, Ethan [Roberts], before the game yesterday, just had an accident,â Counsell explained to the press. âA vent fell, he cut his hand trying to not let it hit his leg, just random bad luck.â
In the meantime, while they continue to ride the ship, the Cubs have summoned some names to bolster their pitching department, as theyâve called Ryan Rolison and Luke Little from their Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs.
In his five appearances with Iowa this season, Rolison hasnât had the easiest time, posting a 3.68 ERA through seven innings on the mound.
Little, on the otherhand has been electric in his five appearances for Iowa, fanning nine batters in 7.2 innings on the mound, and has a spotless 3-0 record.
As things stand for Chicago, theyâre set to wrap up their ongoing series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, with first pitch slated for 6:40 p.m. EST.
