TL;DR
Texas A&M completed a sweep of rival Texas, winning two games before Game 3 was canceled due to weather. The Aggies' offense leads the SEC, and a new pitching strategy is being implemented as they prepare for a road test against LSU.
Texas A&M (27-7, 9-5 SEC) completed the sweep of rival Texas this weekend, despite Game 3 being canceled due to inclement weather in College Station that posed a threat throughout the day, leading to the late-night announcement. Still, the Aggies' first two wins of the series, including an 11-4 blowout victory in Game 2, more than proved that A&M was the better team at the moment.
Led by 20 runs in two games Texas A&M's offense continues to lead the SEC in nearly every key category, while star junior Caden Sorrell is the conference home run leader with 17 though 34 games, while fellow junior first baseman Gavin Grahovac is playing out of his mind over the last two weeks, and is second on the team batting .356 with 47 hits and 9 home runs on the year.
Rising to No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Top 25 after defeating the Longhorns, winning seven of their last nine games is no surprise given the formula head coach Michael Earley and pitching coach Jason Kelly have devised on the mound after moving star sophomore Aiden Sims as the Saturday starter, providing flexibility with junior Weston Moss as a relief option or Sunday starter.
While Friday Shane Sdao has struggled in SEC play, his six strikeouts and four runs allowed against Texas did not dictate the game, as Texas A&M's offense has provided enough leeway, scoring nine runs, while reliever Clayton Freshcorn, despite allowing back-to-back home runs in the final frame, closed out the game in regular fashion.
If Texas A&M's offense continues to produce, which should be the case heading into this weekend's road test against an LSU pitching staff that has been average at best, Earley and Kelly are hoping that this change to the starting pitching rotation continues to produce results. On Tuesday, D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers briefly discussed the Aggies' pitching strategy, which you can watch below.
