A return to the track for Oregon Ducks wide receiver Dakorien Moore brought plenty of fanfare to Hayward Field. Moore participated in the long jump, representing the Ducks in the Oregon Team Invitational on Friday, and he didn’t disappoint.
The speedy wideout showed off his athleticism and gave Ducks fans something to look forward to both on the football field and later this spring in the long jump. With plenty of his teammates from the gridiron in the stands to support him, Moore’s cheering section was boisterous.
Moore built himself up and led his group after his first two jumps since participating as a junior at Duncanville High School. His first two jumps went for 6.94 meters and 6.99 meters, but he was still just short of where he needed to be to qualify for the final.
Needing to jump at least 7.02 meters, Moore qualified with a jump of 7.48 meters (24 feet 6.5 inches) in his final attempt of the qualifying round, just one centimeter shy of his personal best. The Hayward crowd, dominated by Moore’s teammates, roared in astonishment.
The leap moved Moore into sixth place and qualified him for the final. He jumped 6.94 meters again for his first and only jump of the final round. He passed on his next two attempts. Moore wound up with the sixth-best jump of the day and second-best amongst Oregon athletes, trailing only Titouan Bizet, who posted a 7.60-meter jump to finish in fifth.
Several of Oregon’s offensive stars, including quarterbacks Dante Moore and Dylan Raiola, were in attendance. This might not be the last time we see Moore in the long jump this spring, but we will get a chance to see Moore leap sky high for passes downfield next week in Oregon’s spring game on April 25.
