Dan Quinn is not going to go with one Washington Commanders nickname.
Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic was overheard asking the Commanders' third-year head coach regarding one of his 2026 draft picks. Washington looked to add a running back in the draft, and it did, selecting one in the sixth round, with the 187th overall selection.
So Jhabvala inquired of Quinn on Friday, "Kaytron Allen, 'Fatman', Do you refer to him as Fatman?" Without hesitation, Quinn shook his head, replying, "I do not." Now smiling, Quinn continued, "Yes, I do not. And I'm hopefully never going to." Another smile from Quinn, and all those standing near Quinn chuckled. It was all in good fun. Quinn wasn't making it a serious matter; he decided to have some fun with it, but did apparently make it clear that he has no intention of referring to his rookie running back from Penn State, Kaytron Allen, as 'Fatman.'
Allen was asked recently about the origin of 'Fatman.' The leading rusher in Penn State history responded, "It came from my mom. So, when I was a baby, I was fat. So, she named me 'Fatman' for my nickname. So, it's always stuck with me. Everybody called me that in the city, for real. I don't really like Kaytron, for real. I like 'Fatman' way better."
Interestingly, Allen did state that Penn State teachers and staff referred to him as 'Kaytron.' It seems at least one more of his professionals/teachers is planning on doing the same.
