SEC program expected to flip FSU's highest-rated commit
TL;DR
FSU's highest-rated commit, four-star safety Mekhi Williams, is considering other schools, including LSU, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. LSU is currently favored to flip him from FSU, which would significantly impact the Seminoles' recruiting class.
Key points
- Mekhi Williams is FSU's highest-rated commit for 2027.
- He has been committed for over a year but is keeping options open.
- LSU is currently favored to flip Williams from FSU.
The FSU Seminoles have six commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle, with four-star safety Mekhi Williams being the highest-ranked. While he has been committed for over a year, he recently admitted that he is keeping his "options open."
Several schools are working to flip him from FSU, with Williams set to officially visit the Wisconsin Badgers (May 29), Nebraska Cornhuskers (June 12), and LSU Tigers (June 19) over the summer, in addition to the Seminoles (June 5). While they all have a shot, LSU appears to have the momentum in his recruitment.
Shea Dixon, who covers LSU for On3, logged a prediction in LSU's favor to pull off the flip of Williams. It is the only prediction about where Williams will end up.
It would be a massive blow to FSU to lose Williams. Not only is he their highest-rated and longest-tenured commit, it is not particularly close. Williams is the No. 178 overall player in the Rivals industry ranking; Gregory Batson is the next-highest at No. 334.
FSU has been recruiting Williams longer than anyone else in the country. It became the first school to offer him a scholarship back in January of 2025 and has hosted him on numerous visits throughout his recruitment. LSU did not offer him a scholarship until May 4, 2026, and he has never visited.
