Davide Brivio’s shock move to Honda: The twist that could save Joan Mir’s career

Davide Brivio is reportedly set to leave Trackhouse for Honda, a move that could be significant for Joan Mir’s MotoGP future in 2027.

The move comes after Honda confirmed earlier this year that Joan Mir would not have his contract extended beyond the 2026 campaign.

The Spaniard has struggled since joining the team in 2023 and has been left without a ride for the following season.

Since Brivio played a key role in Suzuki signing Mir back in 2019, there’s a natural link between them, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Brivio push for Mir’s return at Trackhouse when his current deal ends.

Before any move happens, though, Davide Brivio will need time to settle into his new job and work out how he wants to shape the team.

At present, Luca Marini and Johann Zarco are on two-year deals with Honda, so no spots are open until the end of the 2025 season. But if things don’t improve on track, changes could come sooner.

Could Brivio’s Arrival Give Mir a Second Chance at Honda?

Brivio’s expected arrival could be good news for Mir, whose contract with Honda runs out at the end of the 2026 season.

With Fabio Quartararo set to join from Yamaha next year and David Alonso expected to arrive from CFMoto Moto2, things look tough for both Mir and Luca Marini.

But Brivio stepping into a senior role might change things for Mir. The two have worked together before, most notably during Mir’s 2020 championship-winning season with Suzuki.

Mir had also been linked to Trackhouse when Brivio was in charge there, after he mentioned they were seeking a more seasoned rider to fill the gap left by Ai Ogura’s upcoming move to Yamaha in 2027.
