MIAMI GARDENS — It appears Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan had a good reason for expressing optimism over how contract talks are progressing with running back De’Von Achane.
A day after Sullivan said progress was being made, Achane was working out at the team facility in a good-faith gesture, ESPN reported.

During the Dolphins’ annual pre-draft news conference, Sullivan was asked about Achane’s future. After declaring that Achane, the team’s 2025 MVP, is not available for trade, he seemed to suggest a contract extension might be forthcoming sooner rather than later. Achane had missed the opening of OTAs, which are voluntary.
“Things are going good,” Sullivan said of contract talks. “We’ve had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, turning in the right direction. He’s obviously very important to what we’re doing.”

Achane is due to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2026.
Achane, who won’t turn 25 until October, was drafted in the third round in 2023 out of Texas A&M and wasted no time establishing himself as a threat every time the ball is in his hands. Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry as a rookie. Despite carrying 441 times in the two seasons since, he still maintains a career average of 5.6.
The NFL record for career rushing average by a non-quarterback is 5.7 by Hall of Fame fullback Marion Motley, who played for the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, starting in 1946.
Last season, Achane ran for 1,350 yards and caught 67 passes for 488 yards. He scored 12 total touchdowns and made his first Pro Bowl.
