Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders made himself available for a mini media tour this week. There was nothing to promote other than talk about a few offseason topics.
During a 40-minute appearance on The Barbershop podcast, Sanders explained why he wants to meet with Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken as a coach and not a father. Whichever Coach Prime wants to spin it, there's a weird vibe about it all.
After saying he wanted to try and meet with Monken, there was one other NFL team that rejected Sanders' plea for advice, and it involved former Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. The Jacksonville Jaguars wanted nothing to do with the "Prime Effect."
“Even a guy like Travis Hunter, being drafted to Jacksonville, and I’ve had him for the last three (years),” Sanders told The Barbershop podcast. “Don’t you think you would want to talk to me to let me know, to ask me how — what gets him going and what backs him off and, and what, like, you wouldn’t want to know that?”
The Jacksonville Jaguars declined Deion Sanders' request for advice, indicating they wanted nothing to do with the 'Prime Effect.'

The 'Prime Effect' refers to the significant attention and influence Deion Sanders has in the football community, which some teams may find overwhelming.

This isn't some type of breaking news, but even with Sanders being able to get the best out of Hunter, the Jags shouldn't be reaching out. The franchise did trade up in order to draft the two-way star. What could Deion have said to change the situation? Most likely nothing an entire coaching staff and scout didn't figure out ahead of the draft. Especially a player going in the top three.
Sanders would've enjoyed a courtesy call, but that's not what happens when a player goes to the NFL. What Coach Prime wanted to do is establish a point of contact inside the Jags organization, and he was never given the opportunity to establish one.
It's probably for the best to let Hunter carve out his own path in the league without any interjection from Coach Prime at this point. The same goes for Shedeur in Cleveland. Whether a conversation as a coach or father comes about with Monken, will it help his cause? Likely not.
