Desmond Bane scored 22 points, Franz Wagner had 19 in three quarters and the Magic beat the Detroit Pistons 94-88 Monday night to take a 3-1 series lead, putting the Eastâs No. 1 seed on the brink of elimination.
Game 5 is Wednesday night in Detroit.
âWe put our ourselves in position to try to get four, but right now it means nothing,â Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said. âWe have the advantage and now we have to try and make sure we keep that advantage.â
Orlando, which had to win an elimination game at home in the play-in tournament, is on the verge of becoming just the seventh No. 8 seed to defeat a No. 1 in a series in league history. Itâs happened only four times since the playoffs were expanded to a best-of-seven series for all rounds in 2003.

PHOENIX (AP) â Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points, Chet Holmgren added 24 and Oklahoma City beat Phoenix Suns, capping a four-game sweep in the first-round series.
The Thunder â who have a 12-0 record in the first round over the last three seasons â will face the winner of the Los Angeles Lakers-Houston Rockets series in the Western Conference semifinals. The Lakers have a 3-1 lead, though the Rockets won Game 4.
Phoenix has a 10-game losing streak in the playoffs, dating to 2023.
