Shohei Ohtani is experiencing a significant slump, with a recent performance of 4-for-36 and his last home run on April 26. Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts is adjusting Ohtani's schedule to address these struggles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been struggling lately, but that is simply part of a long baseball season. However, no player on the roster is struggling more than Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani is the face of the Dodgers, and there is no denying that. But over the last couple of weeks, his production at the plate has been unusually underwhelming — worse than at any other point in his career.
“Shohei Ohtani, 0-for-3 with two groundouts and a strikeout tonight, is navigating a 4-for-36. His last home run was April 26. His slash line is down to .777. The last time his OPS started with a 7 this late in the year: 2022,” ESPN’s Alden Gonzales posted.
Ohtani’s slump has reached the point where manager Dave Roberts is planning to give him some sort of off day later this week.
“Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani won’t hit either Wednesday (his start date on the mound) or Thursday as he continues to scuffle at the plate,” The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya wrote.
Shohei Ohtani is currently 4-for-36 at the plate, with his last home run hit on April 26.

A legitimate day off for Ohtani is a rare occurrence, as the only times he is typically absent from the lineup are when he is pitching. A recent example came last weekend against the Houston Astros.
“Dave Roberts said pregame he was gonna have Shohei Ohtani DH during his pitching start tomorrow. But after tonight’s game, he said they’re gonna change course and just have Ohtani pitch. Ohtani had a couple walks tonight, but went hitless again and is 0-for-17 in last 5 games,” Dodgers beat writer Jack Harris posted.
Roberts is likely hoping that giving his superstar a day to reset mentally and watch the game from a different perspective will help him regain his rhythm. Ohtani has rarely endured a stretch this difficult throughout his career.
While it remains unclear which day Ohtani will ultimately sit, Thursday appears to make the most sense since he is not scheduled to pitch. At this point, Ohtani may simply need a day to clear his mind and rediscover the approach that made him one of baseball’s most dominant players.
