Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers has extended his on-base streak to 46 games, surpassing Ichiro Suzuki's previous record of 43 games. He achieved this milestone with solo home runs in his first at-bats during the last two games.

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani extended his on-base streak to 46 games Sunday, and grew ever-closer to even more records.
Ohtani broke the record for the longest on-base streak by a Japanese-born player in Fridayâs game against the Texas Rangers, shattering Ichiro Suzukiâs record of 43 games during the 2009 campaign. He extended his streak in his first at-bats in the following two games with solo home runs to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
He broke the record on his own bobblehead night, and manager Dave Roberts expected a little more than just the single he recorded that day.
âI thought he was going to hit a home run tonight,â Roberts said after the game. âAnd I think he wanted a home run tonight on his bobblehead night, but it just wasnât to be.â
The superstar has reached base in every regular season game since Aug. 23, 2025, and hasnât shown any sign of slowing down as the season has progressed. Naturally, he has closed the gap on some All-Time records in that time.

What On-Base Records is Ohtani Chasing?
The next record Ohtani can chase down is the longest streak by a Dodger, set by Duke Snider in 1954 at 58 games. Incidentally, this is also the National League record for the longest on-base streak.
Ohtaniâs current streak is the fifth longest in Dodgers history, sitting one game behind Ron Ceyâs 47-game streak from 1975-76. Ahead of Cey are Willie Keeler (50 games, 1900-01), Shawn Green (53 games, 2000) and of course Snider.
The superstar is still a ways off from the all-time longest streak in MLB history, as Ted Williams managed to reach base in 84 consecutive games during the 1949 season. Joe DiMaggio, while more renowned for his 56-game hitting streak, has the second longest on-base streak at 74 games.
How Long Would Ohtani Have to Reach Base to Match Those Records?
If Ohtani continued to reach base every game, he would reach Sniderâs record by the end of April. 12 games from now, the Dodgers will play the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium, setting the perfect environment for the occasion.
To break the all-time record, Ohtani would have to continue to reach base until late May, with the record-breaking game set for May 25 against the Colorado Rockies at homeâDave Robertsâ bobblehead night.
Do you think Shohei Ohtani can engrave his name in history and break a nearly 80-year-old record?
