It's only natural for the baseball world to assume that the biggest names will end up with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That's been the assumption with Tarik Skubal. Lots of speculation suggested the Dodgers would either trade for Skubal before this season's trade deadline or that they'd sign him in the offseason for a record-setting $400 million contract.
But on Monday, a reminder came that with pitchers, it's best to not get ahead of ourselves.
Skubal is injured. He needs surgery for "loose bodies" in his throwing elbow.

It'd be tough for a team to trade for a pitcher coming right off an elbow injury.
And now that Skubal's elbow has proven it isn't immortal, there's just a bit more injury risk in an offseason contract, too.
That might not stop the Dodgers. They have so much money to spend that they can afford to miss on a move here and there.
They'd certainly still look more imposing by adding the two-time AL Cy Young winner to their pitching staff.
But maybe this injury has changed things. It'll certainly at least make room for some second-guessing.
