The event served as part of the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival, and helped raise money for Smith’s charity: Catching Hope. Will and Cara Smith founded Catching Hope in 2021, hoping to “help underprivileged children with critical skills needed for leadership, self-advocacy, and self-sufficiency.”
“Catching Hope has been around for a few years now,” Smith said. “Our goal is to raise funding for kids through education and their schools. We created some reading nooks at a couple of elementary schools here. We provide Amazon wish lists for teachers.”
“…We were just at a school in the Palisades that burned down in the fire last year. We were able to provide funding for a program for their mental health, counseling, for their lives being uprooted. We just felt like that was an important thing that was a little bit overlooked, and wanted to provide funding for and really help those kids.”
Actor and comedian Ken Jeong hosted the event, which took place at The Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. Michelle Buteau, Ryan Hamilton, Sam Jay, Tom Papa, Frankie Quiñones and Derrick Stroup also featured in the event.

“It’s a fun night,” Smith told MLB.com. “Netflix is such a great partner; they provide such great comedians. We’re able to raise a bunch of money for our foundation through auctions and ticket sales.”

What Did Will Smith’s Teammates Think of the Event?
Plenty of Dodgers attended the event, and both manager Dave Roberts and Tyler Glasnow had great things to say about the program Will and Cara Smith put on.
“We’re together for essentially eight-and-a-half months of the year,” Roberts said. “We’re together every day playing, so for guys to take an offday to support their teammate is fantastic. Will and Cara do a great job with their charity, and it’s part of what makes the Dodgers special.”
“I think the more you get to know Will, he definitely has a relaxed, fun side for sure,” Glasnow said. “Especially when you spend so much time together. I do think maybe on the field, he’s more business serious, but Will definitely has a fun side.”
The Dodgers don’t get any more time to rest, though, as they jump straight back into action Friday against the Atlanta Braves. First pitch for their series opener against the Braves comes at 7:10 p.m. PT.
