Despite the house cleaning that the Miami Dolphins did during this offseason, one piece of their offense they didn’t get rid of was running back De’Von Achane.
Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan says the negotiations are going well with the running back, according to Dolphins beat writer Cameron Wolfe.
“Sully says he’s had “positive conversations” with Achane’s team regarding an extension and believes they are “trending in the right direction.”
He also added, “is not available for trade.” So there will not be any surprise trades, at least regarding Achane. The Dolphins already dumped their starting quarterback, their best wide receiver, and one of their best defensive players.
Sullivan also announced that Troy Aikman will not be part of the team’s drafting process next week.
“I can’t say enough good things about Troy and quite frankly Dan (Marino) as well,” Sullivan said Wednesday, via video from the team. “Dan’s been here. Dan’s been in the room. Dan’s has been a tremendous sounding board for us. We’ve had a lot of fun together. . . . He’s been especially helpful for me with quarterbacks and receivers. Troy’s been a wonderful sounding board in his own right from afar. Troy will be part of equation moving forward. What that looks like, we’ll see. But he’s been a great sounding board, and I’m glad he’s going to be part of the equation.
“I know he’ll be here. He’s certainly welcome in the draft room,” he added.
A lot of people were stunned when Aikman, the former Cowboy, joined the Dolphins.
