Jake Wilkins, son of NBA legend Dominique Wilkins, is transferring from Georgia to the California Golden Bears. The 6-foot-9 forward had a modest freshman season but is expected to play a larger role at his new school.
A Georgia Bulldog legacy player is transferring to a West Coast team in the ACC. Jake Wilkins, son of college andpro basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, is transferring to the California Golden Bears, according to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express.
Wilkins is a 6-foot-9, 185-pound rising sophomore who has elite athleticism, similar to his father. He was ranked as the No. 68 prospect in the nation and No. 6 from the state of Georgia.
He committed to Georgia on Oct. 31, 2023, and when he enrolled, his dad unretired his number so that his son could carry his legacy. Wilkins appeared in 32 games for Georgia and helped the Bulldogs make the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 10.2 minutes per game.
While he showed flashes of his father's talent, his freshman year was not spectacular. He averaged 4.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 0.4 blocks a game, while shooting 46.6% from the field and 21.1% from behind the arc. Wilkins contributed as a defender and had some great dunks. He was projected to have a much larger role with Georgia basketball in 2026-27 because of all of Georgia's transfer losses.
Wilkins will look to forge a path under another relative. He is the stepbrother of current Cal assistant coach Isaiah Wilkins.
The Golden Bears went 22-12 last season, missing out on the NCAA Tournament. They took part in the NIT, but lost in the second round to Saint Joseph's via a buzzer-beater. Wilkins will look to elevate his play and the Cal squad next year.
