Mattingly did just that on Monday after starting pitcher Aaron Nola put together his best start of the season in their 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins.
"That was a masterclass tonight," Mattingly stated during his post-game interview.
After elaborating on what the veteran pitcher did well, Mattingly concluded that Monday's performance shows more of what Nola is capable of.

Nola pitched six innings with five strikeouts on 94 pitches on the night while only allowing five hits.
Before Monday's victory, the long-term pitcher got off to a shaky start, giving up at least three runs in five of his six appearances.
Now with the win, Nola earned his second on the season, in which he strung together a similar outing in his first win over the Colorado Rockies in early April.
If this is a preview of how Nola and the rest of the Phillies will play for the remainder of the season, the team will become the World Series contenders most thought they would be at the beginning of the season.
