Arteta calls on Arsenal to take charge in title race after loss to City
The Indianapolis Colts selected linebacker CJ Allen in the second round and safety AJ Haulcy in the third round of the draft. GM Chris Ballard also traded down from pick 47 to gain additional draft capital.
With their Day 2 selections, the Indianapolis Colts selected linebacker CJ Allen in the second round and safety AJ Haulcy in the third round.
GM Chris Ballard also accumulated some additional draft capital by initially trading down from pick 47.
Allen can come in and start right away at the linebacker position for the Colts -- a position that was a major need coming into the draft.
At safety, Ballard has been quite active with additions this offseason, but uncertainty around whether any of those players can provide a steady presence next to Cam Bynum remained. Haulcy will have the opportunity to earn snaps and could fill a Nick Cross-like role.
So what grades did the draft experts give the Colts for these selections?
From a value standpoint, the Colts hit these picks out of the park, with Allen the 35th-rated player overall on the consensus big board, while Haulcy was 56th.
"Allen had been touted as a potential first-rounder, but this feels like a more reasonable range for him. His instincts and run defense will come in handy right away for Indianapolis, which was due for a refresh at the second level."
"Allen was one of Georgia’s most important players over the past few seasons and falls this far only due to questions about athleticism and length. Still, he’s a capable athlete and a strong tackler in the box who should emerge as a leader."
The Colts drafted linebacker CJ Allen in the second round and safety AJ Haulcy in the third round.
CJ Allen is expected to start right away at linebacker, addressing a major need for the Colts.
AJ Haulcy has the potential to earn snaps and may fill a role similar to that of Nick Cross in the Colts' defense.

"Allen fell to the second round but it’s a perfect match with the Colts and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. After trading inside linebacker Zaire Franklin to the Packers this winter, Indianapolis gets a replacement who is ready to play significant snaps."
USA Today: B-
"Haulcy probably won't replicate his ball production at the next level, but he can still make an impact in coverage as a punishing force. Between this selection and Allen, Indianapolis is quietly solidifying its defense down the middle."
This is the Nick Cross replacement if I've ever seen one. Haulcy is an outstanding box safety who can be Lou Anarumo's version of Vonn Bell in Indy.

"He was one of the best DBs in the SEC last season and has a ton of college experience. Good value pick in the third round with a high floor."

"The Colts lost Nick Cross in the offseason to the Commanders. Haulcy gives Indianapolis a replacement who will likely play special teams while also getting a shot to start on the defense next to Cam Bynum."
