Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils are reportedly pursuing a 19.1 points-per-game Wisconsin transfer who, according to 247Sports, could command $5 million in NIL.
“Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell, the top-ranked guard in the transfer portal this offseason, announced last week that he is considering six schools — Duke, UCLA, Illinois, Arizona, Alabama, and Louisville — as potential destinations,” 247Sports’ Grant Hughes stated Tuesday.
“The Blue Devils and Fighting Illini emerged as early favorites for the 6-foot-6 All-Big Ten selection, but the Bruins are hosting him for an official visit Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are looking to make another big splash after already landing Oregon point guard Jackson Shelstad and the portal's top-ranked overall player, Kansas big man Flory Bidunga.”
Blackwell spent the first three years of his collegiate career with the Badgers, and improved his scoring each season.
Blackwell is a high-level off-the-dribble/catch-and-shoot three-point sniper, an elite change-of-pace ball handler, and a high-IQ scorer committed to hunting high-percentage looks. It also helps that the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native uses his anticipatory chops and lateral quickness to succeed as a perimeter defender.
Blackwell contributed 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game last season, shooting 43.0% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc.
The Blue Devils could use a star-studded, two-way contributor like Blackwell, who’s already experienced success at the high major level, making it logical for them to go all-out for the highly-touted transfer.
