Duke is set to host Wisconsin transfer guard John Blackwell on Monday. Blackwell averaged 19.1 points and 5.1 rebounds last season and is seen as a potential replacement for Isaiah Evans.
Duke received a commitment from forward Dave Scharnowski on Sunday. On Monday, Jon Scheyer and his staff will look to impress one of the top guards in the transfer portal.
Wisconsin transfer guard John Blackwell is set to visit Duke on Monday, Joe Tipton reports. As a junior with the Badgers, the Michigan native averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 43.0 percent from the floor for Greg Gard’s team.
At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Blackwell is a physical guard who would make a great replacement for Isaiah Evans, who is expected to go in the first round of this year’s NBA draft. He was a third-team All Big Ten selection and made the All Big Ten Tournament team, while earning Big Ten Player of the Week twice this past season.
“He is a score-first combo guard with strength, downhill ability and enough shot making to produce at all three levels. Evaluators have pointed to his toughness, confidence, strong frame, foul-drawing ability and advanced on-ball skill set, while also noting the strides he made each year at Wisconsin. He rebounds well for his position, plays through contact and has enough value off the catch that he does not need to dominate the ball to impact a game.”
Blackwell has already visited UCLA and is expected to make a trip to Louisville this week.
