The Colorado Rockies are one of the few teams that have trouble adding stars in their prime. Not many want to go to Colorado, pitcher or hitter.
Hitters get nervous about getting too used to the altitude in Colorado, and having trouble elsewhere while pitching in Colorado is an absolute nightmare.
So, the draft is important for this team. And with the No. 10 overall pick later this summer, they have the chance to add a cornerstone player who could change the course of this franchise.

Dynamic Big 12 outfielder is emerging as a top target for the Rockies
The Rockies have made three pretty good first-round picks over the last three years. They selected Chase Dollander in 2023, and he's with the big-league club right now. They also took Charlie Condon in 2024, and most recently, Ethan Holliday last year.
Outside of Holliday, the club has preferred to take college talent over high school, and according to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, that is not expected to change. He projects they will select TCU outfielder Sawyer Strosnider.
"With a .436 on-base percentage this spring and a 60-power, 60- speed tool profile, Strosnider provides an exciting combination of upside and polish offensively. He hit .350/.420/.650 with 13 doubles, 10 triples, 11 home runs and 10 steals as a freshman, and while his average is down to .286 this spring, he has raised his walk rate from 8.0 to 20.0 percent and proven to be a more advanced hitter."
Strosnider has a great combination of speed and power that could certainly play in Colorado. And while his average is down, he is excelling in other areas, like his walk rate.
He has also played basketball and was a long jumper, so the athleticism is there. It's just about getting that to translate at the big league level.
